An Experimental Investigation of Spark Ignition Engine Fueled with Ethanol/Iso-octane and Methanol/Iso-octane Fuel Blends
Alcohols have been used as a fuel for engines since 19th century. Among the various alcohols, ethanol and methanol are known as the most suited renewable, bio-based and ecofriendly fuel for spark-ignition (SI) engines. The most attractive properties of ethanol and methanol as an SI engine fuel are that it can be produced from renewable energy sources such as sugar, cane, cassava, many types ...
متن کاملAn experimental investigation of iso-octane ignition phenomena
High-speed digital imaging has been used in rapid compression facility (RCF) studies to investigate ignition phenomena of iso-octane/air mixtures. Sequential images were captured for each experiment. The results indicate the existence of two ignition regimes. In one domain, ignition is rapid, typically less than 76 μs, and ignition occurs simultaneously throughout the test volume. In the other ...
متن کاملA rapid compression facility study of OH time histories during iso-octane ignition
Iso-octane ignition delay times (τign) and hydroxyl (OH) radical mole fraction (χOH) time histories were measured under conditions relevant to homogeneous charge compression ignition engine operating regimes using the University of Michigan rapid compression facility. Absolute quantitative OH mole fraction time histories were obtained using differential narrow-line laser absorption of the R1(5)...
متن کاملH2 Production from Partial Oxidation of iso-Octane over Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 and Ni/β- Al2O3 Catalysts
In this study, the partial oxidation of iso-octane over Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 and Ni/βAl2O3 catalysts was investigated. The results indicated that Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 is more active than Ni/β-Al2O3. The partial oxidation products are mainly H2 and CO for Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 with hydrogen selectivity up to 85%. The H2/CO ratio is in the range of 1.3-2.0 depending on the operating temperature. It was n...
